About This Show

Wait Until May Productions presents Anima as part of the 10th annual New York International Fringe Festival. This world premiere play is written by Brooklyn based playwright Christiaan Greer, and directed by Emily Meisler.

Anima is an emotionally devastating play about the destructive relationships within which we often find ourselves ensnared. Brutal, bloody and savage, it tells the story of Ella, a young woman who tries to disentangle herself from the love of Vlad, a sometimes homeless and itinerant bike messenger. When James, an old friend and recently returned veteran of the Iraq War needs a place to stay, and Ella and James begin to fall in love, Vlad becomes enraged. Vlad, so tethered to Ella and her support, comes to see murder as his only chance for survival. Anima’s language and content heralds the coming of a new playwright whose unique voice elicits comparisons to Sam Shephard.
