About This Show

In the operatic tradition of the “pants role” (woman playing man), Angel in Between goes one step further when that man, (an updated “Cherubino” from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro), longs to dress as a woman. An exploration into the very existence of gender through this woman playing a man who becomes a woman, Angel in Between is a new paradigm in theater.

The Fritz Theater of San Diego, known for its “remarkable, valuable and varied work” (San Diego Union Tribune), makes its New York City debut in conjunction with En Travesti Productions. The one-person transformational musical play stars Roseanne Ciparick and is directed by the Fritz Theater Artistic Director Duane Daniels. Book by Kate Kaminski, music by Daniel Shamir and lyrics by Timothy Mathis. Based on an original idea by Roseanne Ciparick.

“Radiant newcomer Roseanne Ciparick performs with such vividness and ease.” (Ann Marie Welsh, The San Diego Union Tribune)

The Fritz Theater, founded in 1991 by Artistic Director Duane Daniels, is San Diego’s leading contemporary theater. Voted “San Diego’s Best Small Theater” (2000), “The Fritz Theater inspires on all levels.” (Michael Phillips, The San Diego Union Tribune, May, 1996)
