In the Moliere Players’ modernized adaptation of Moliere’s A Rehearsal at Versailles, Moliere’s troupe has 45 minutes to rehearse a play (which Moliere has just written and his players have never read), as a special performance for the King. A series of interruptions and distractions delay what little time they have, driving Moliere into a crazed panic, and leaving him no other recourse but to implore the King for more time. In his usual style, Moliere wittily pokes at everyone he comes in contact with, from the nobility for whom the play was intended, to the critics, rival actors, and the eccentric cast of people in his own acting troupe.
There are no regular performances June 21 and 22. June 21 offers a special benefit party and performance at the Access Gallery Theater, 380 Broadway, 3rd floor. The party begins at 9:00pm followed by the performance at 10:30pm, and the suggested donation is $10.
