About This Show

Repertorio Español presents Frederico Garcia Lorca’s Yerma. A young woman longs to give birth to a child, which her husband, Juan, denies her. Yerma’s own strong code of honor will not permit her to take up with a man other than her husband. Yerma not only feels bound to Juan, his sisters, and her neighbors, but also to the social expectation that she be quiet and dutiful. In the end, Juan’s indifference leads her to smash social conventions and to turn herself into an outlaw.
