About This Show

The Exonerated is a groundbreaking dramatization of the harrowing real-life stories of six death row inmates condemned for brutal crimes they did not commit. This fall marks the 10th anniversary of Culture Project’s award-winning premiere of this powerful verbatim play culled from interviews, letters, transcripts, and court records. The national and international tour in 2002 garnered unprecedented media attention and helped lead to the commutation of over 160 death sentences in Illinois and the repeal of the death penalty.

As timely as ever, Culture Project’s upcoming production is poised to ignite outrage, increase visibility and create a sense of urgency as part of a rising movement to restore justice to a system that has shown itself time and again to be deeply flawed.
