About This Show

Tony and Emmy Award-winning choreographer Michael Smuin brings his Smuin Ballet to The Joyce Theater with two major New York premieres, both showcasing his brilliant ability to move from contemporary to classical. With these performances, "…there is a lot more excitement, more going on, fewer of the sometimes predictable star turns and romantic pas de deux, which are ordinarily his choreographic bread and butter." (Michael Wade Simpson, San Francisco Chronicle)

Bluegrass/Slyde showcases dancers spinning and swinging around a fire-engine red aluminum grid and pole set to the music of noted bassist Edgar Meyer and others. Symphony of Psalms is a classical piece choreographed to the music of Igor Stravinsky. Strong movement and statuesque poses act well with the beautiful orchestration. The final piece, Fly Me to the Moon, will surely get your fingers snapping and toes tapping as it features the songs of Frank Sinatra.
