Aquila Theatre presents an exciting new production of Nobel Laureate Luigi Pirandello's most famous drama, Six Characters in Search of an Author. First staged in Rome in 1921, Pirandello's surrealist play dared to ask fundamental questions about the very nature of art and entertainment, blurring the line between reality and artifice. The play opens with a group of actors preparing to rehearse for a Pirandello play, but they are interrupted by the unexpected arrival of six nameless characters. They are looking for an author and are therefore unrealized and incomplete characters. In the age of virtual reality and reality TV, internet hoaxes and entertainment "news", Pirandello's play is amazingly vital and relevant while being both poignant and incredibly funny. What is the truth? Is my reality your reality? Is the distinction between reality and fiction an illusion? Aquila Theatre brings a top quality all British ensemble to the stage for this historic and timely play in what the Los Angeles Times described as "Superb… intelligence and laser-sharp line readings."
