About This Show

In a dark Victorian underworld of narrow streets and sinister figures, a runaway orphan boy searches for the secret of his origins, pursued by a mysterious force and falling in with a band of rogues one of whose leaders is Fagin, a Jew. Charles Dickens’s classic novel has kept readers as well as theatre and film audiences on the edge of their seats for well over a century.

In this powerful, new version of Oliver Twist, adaptor-director Neil Bartlett recreates his acclaimed London production. Taking their cue from the foot-lit world of the Victorian Music hall, a company of thirteen virtuoso actors conjure up one of the angriest, funniest and most deeply felt stories about childhood ever written. Dickens’ original words are used to bring the dark underbelly of 19th Century London back to thrilling life: a city haunted by shadowy dangers and fears, by startling images of innocence and hope; a city seen through the eyes of an astonished child.
