About This Show

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College continues its 2011-2012 Solo Sensations series with funnyman Steve Solomon in his award-winning Off-Broadway hit My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish & I’m In Therapy! Written and performed by Mr. Solomon, the show brings to life more than 30 characters inspired by his multiethnic upbringing in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn.

“A little Alan King here, a pinch of Seinfeld there, with a smidgen of Don Rickles, Billy Crystal and George Carlin thrown in.” – Variety

Described by the author as “one part lasagna, one part kreplach and two parts Prozac,” this solo tour-de-force combines comic voices, sound effects, and astounding characterizations to tell stories of the wacky side of the human condition. Among the characters Mr. Solomon portrays are his beloved bubbe, his stuttering cousin Bob, his therapist Cousin Sal and, naturally, his Palermo-born mother and his Minsk-born American father, who met in Italy at the tail end of World War II. Despite the intimation of his show’s title, Solomon says he adores his family, according to a 2007 interview with jweekly.com. “To this day, they’re great people and a lot of laughs,” he notes.
