Tony and Olivier Award winner Patti LuPone stars in City Center’s Gypsy, part of its new Encores! Summer Stars series. The Arthur Laurents-Stephen Sondheim-Jule Styne musical is based on striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee. LuPone plays Mama Rose, the fiercely ambitious show business mother who pushes her two daughters up the ruggard road toward stardom. The score is filled with musical theater standards such as “Let Me Entertain You” and “Everything’s Coming Up Roses.”
