Amas Musical Theatre, in association with Sage Hill Productions presents the New York premiere of Eatonville, a stage adaptation of Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God. The show features a script by Bonnie Lee Moss and an original jazz score and songs by Pulitzer Prize and 9-time Grammy Award winner Wynton Marsalis. Vernice Miller directs.
Set in a world still reeling from the legacy of slavery, the production centers on Janie Mae Crawford who defies the well-meant wishes of her community and forges a path in which she makes her own choices, even if those choices mean currying the awe and envy of the very community that has nurtured her in a hostile world.
