About the Show

Natalie Mosco’s play follows the remarkable life of the celebrated American painter Georgia O’Keeffe, whose meteoric rise to fame through innovative photographer and art impresario Alfred Stieglitz was for her a simultaneously heady and brutal experience. As model muse and lover to her mentor, Stieglitz, her reputation became inexorably linked with his in a controversial series of photographs that placed both at the center of public scrutiny. Stieglitz’s infidelity and her own yearning to break free of the rigors of success eventually sent O’Keeffe back to the true inspiration of her genius; nature. Mosco has structured her play in a way that captures O’Keeffe’s abstract vision by engaging different rhythmic styles that bring the same aesthetic inherent in O’Keeffe’s paintings into the drama of her life.
