Metropolitan in Motion

The Obie Award winning Metropolitan Playhouse welcomes two companies to present new works and revivals of signature pieces in January:
Alison Cooke Beatty Dance, a company grounded in classical American modern dance that explores universal themes through its emotionally charged movement. Ms Beatty’s choreography has been commissioned by companies such as Ballet Next, Columbia Ballet Collaborative, Carolina Ballet Theater, The Joffrey Ballet School, NYU, Opera Dolche, and The Boston Conservatory. Her work was performed by Ballet Next at The Joyce Theater in 2012. The newly formed Rachael Kosch Dance Company – a celebration of Ms. Kosch’s 30 years creating dances. Known for her work’s whimsical tone, colorful palettes, and costumes that turn dancers into moving sculptures, she was hailed in 1998 as “one of the highlights of the dance season” by Ann Barzel (Dance Magazine), and described as “creating a precise vocabulary for psychological events, almost in the manner of Martha Graham”.
