In this magnificently conceived and imaginative production, the Royal Ballet of Flanders from Belgium, stages celebrated choreographer William Forsythe’s masterpiece, Impressing the Czar.
Impressing the Czar is a triumphant and kaleidoscopic journey through juxtaposed time, a mélange of genres and styles from the classical to the contemporary set to the music of Beethoven, Leslie Stuck and longtime Forsythe collaborator Thom Willems.
From a fairytale court and a comically absurd auction, to a company of unbridled Catholic schoolgirls in a tribal dance set to the music and rhythms of today, Impressing the Czar transcends the conventional to establish a new and extensive choreographic vocabulary.
