Georgia Stitt: Alphabet City Cycle and Other Songs

About This Show

In 2009, Georgia Stitt went into the recording studio with soprano Kate Baldwin and violinist Victoria Paterson and recorded the twenty-minute Alphabet City Cycle, a series of five songs about women alone in New York City, with lyrics by Marcy Heisler and music by Stitt. Tonight, the three women will reunite to perform the exquisite song cycle in its entirety.

Also on the program will be the world premiere of two songs Stitt composed for soprano Rebecca Luker, settings of poems by Christina Rossetti, Derek Walcott and Edna St. Vincent Millay, sonnets, wedding songs, and, as a special treat, the very first two art songs Stitt ever wrote, performed by Kevin Simmonds, the singer who premiered them nearly twenty years ago.
