About This Show

Opéra Français de New York in collaboration with the French Institute Alliance Française continues its 2006-2007 season presenting the finest of the French lyrical style, which emphasizes words over music.

Explore the legend of Carmen, the Gypsy firebrand and free spirit, who ultimately falls victim to her passions and the passion of one man. The evening includes a screening of the classic 1915 silent film by Cecil B. DeMille, a dramatic reading from Mérimée’s novella and a live performance of favorite arias and duets from Bizet’s operatic masterpiece by mezzo-soprano Marie Lenormand, tenor Adam Klein, and baritone Philip Cutlip. The evening also features original flamenco dance choreographed and performed by Sara Erde to accompaniment by guitarist Raphael Brunn and vocalist Alfonso Cid.
