Dave Gorman’s Powerpoint Presentation
…is the name of my latest stand-up show that I launched at the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe. It was my first run at the Fringe for 8 yeas and I’m chuffed to bits with how it went. 28 shows in 26 days and each and every one of them sold out. If you came along… thanks! I then toured the show throughout October/November and, due to popular demand (thanks again!) I extended the tour into 2012 with another 30+ shows around the country and four nights in London at the Southbank Centre. We wrapped up the UK touring with a show at The Bloomsbury Theatre held as a benefit for Shelter before taking the show to Montreal for an 8 show run at the Just For Laughs comedy festival… who also took me and the show to Sydney for a little show at a small venue called The Sydney Opera House.
Having returned to live work – and in particular, returned to stand-up – with the Sit Down, Pedal, Pedal, Stop & Stand Up tour which was largely straight forward one-man-and-a-mic stand-up but with a final quarter of the show given over to a powerpoint section I knew I wanted to pursue that style of performance more. So I set up a monthly night at Hoxton Hall called Dave Gorman’s Screen Guild. By making the projection a key part of the evening I was able to introduce audiences to great guests as well as playing with any new ideas I had. We did five shows there in our opening season and I always did brand new material… I then had nine previews to hone things and select the best blend… and that’s what’s in the Powerpoint Presentation show. I’m really proud of it. It’s taken me a while but I’ve found a way to marry stand-up material with the style of performance I developed in my years of narrative shows like Googlewhack Adventure and Are You Dave Gorman… in other words, a style of stand-up that feels really me.
