Anne Frank in Mt. Vernon, Ohio is a new play by Isaiah Stavchansky, directed by Megumi Nakamura. This satire follows community theater leader Logan Dean, whose dedication to bringing outside voices to his small town inspires him to write his own stage version of Anne Frank’s story despite knowing little about Jewish people. Mary Klam, a young Christian wife who has just unearthed her family’s Jewish heritage, finds herself drawn to the role of Anne despite having learned about the Franks the week prior.
Inspired by the playwright’s experience with a production of The Diary of Anne Frank that had no Jews involved and requested his services as a Jewish consultant, this roaring comedy explores the intersection of ignorance and good intentions.
