The Seagull is a study in heartbreak that centers around Nina, who gives up her simple country life to achieve fame and glory as an actress. Her suitor, the young would-be playwright Konstantine, pens experimental plays that he hopes will one day revolutionize the theatre by doing away with the clumsy artifice of the stage. But Nina is far more interested in Trigorin, an older, successful novelist — and the lover of Konstantine’s mother–whom she feels can help her achieve her goals. The Seagull revisits Chekhov’s classic without the benefit of costumes or set, boiling the masterpiece down to its essentials.
