Her Holy Water: A Black Girl’s Rock Opera

In this provocative rock opera, writer-performer Imani Uzuri takes a spiritual, semi-autobiographical journey from isolation to meditative stillness to exuberant self-expression. Backed by a full ambient band with a string quintet and a sweeping mixed-media video montage, Her Holy Water, is a lyrical, often comedic concert that incorporates drum and bass arias, transformational ballads, and soulful rock as well as coming-of-age stories that recall the artist’s early years in rural North Carolina.
