About This Show

People of all ages have clapped their hands, cried, stomped their feet, and laughed as they kept their eyes riveted on this original monologue. Appearing on stage dressed as a slave, Sherre Bishop brings to life various scenes from slavery to today, narrating and singing throughout. In From the Motherland to the Promised Land, Bishop traces the African American worship experience from a unique perspective. The experience evokes various emotions — remembrances, tears, sorrow, laughter and pride.

The adults, as well as the youth, find this to be more than “something different,” and a spiritual, educational, and rejuvenating experience. The experience evokes tears, sorrow, laughter, pride, and fond memories of the faith of the African American through trials and tribulations. This presentation has been performed at conferences, colleges, worship services, banquets, retreats, family reunions, anniversaries, and other celebrations. This is a great performance to feature at any of the above mentioned events for educational, historical, or faith-based programs.
