Set in 1930s Berlin, an English nightclub singer, an American writer, a German landlady and a Jewish fruit vendor find their destinies linked and their futures uncertain as Europe stands on the brink of devastation. Their dreams for the future are finally shattered as their lives are inexorably drawn towards the horrors of World War II.
