About the Show

Drugs, sex and murder are at the center of this tragic farce based on a play
by Mikhail Bulgakov, one of the great masters of the modern theatre.
Directed by Alexandre Marine, this dark comedy revolves around the
bureaucratic games a Russian widow must play in the 1920’s to hold onto her
large Moscow apartment. By day Zoya Peltz disguises her apartment as a
sewing shop, and by night she transforms it into a brothel. The play pokes
fun at the apparatchiks, drug pushers, and various other corrupt officials
who populated Soviet Moscow’s thriving black market. Back from a sold-out
run in Moscow, Zoya provides a fascinating, highly entertaining look at the dark side of postrevolutionary Russia.
