About the Show

The Illusion by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner is freely adapted from Pierre Conrneille’s 1636 play L’Illusion Comique. The play is the delightful tale of a tyrannical father consumed by guilt over the fate of his son whom he banished many years earlier. Nearing the end of his life, he enlists the help of a magician to produce images of the young man’s whereabouts. What follows is an intriguing and magical view of 17th century France in which Kushner asks the audience to absorb the scenes of love and suffering both as theater and as a reflection of our own lives.
