The Blue Room

About the Show

David Hare’s The Blue Room, a fascinating and intricately crafted adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler’s La Ronde, made waves in 1998 with its scintillating high profile run on Broadway featuring Nicole Kidman. David Hare, whose output includes Skylight, Amy’s View, and the 2002 screenplay adaptation of The Hours, shows his mastery of dialogue and character through a script that demands the highest versatility and the deepest vulnerability.

The play is a satiric and penetrating look at the ideals, fallacies, and experiences of love and sex in a society filled with lust and treachery, but tempered with the consistent yearning for a lasting connection.

Set in the newly renovated Proscenium Theatre at the Actors Workshop in South Boston, this production features the talents of extraordinarily versatile actors, De Anne Dubin and Tony Moreira playing ten characters set in a circular series of dialogues. A prostitute meets a cab driver who meets an au pair who is seduced by a student who is having an affair with a politician’s wife and the dance of intimacy continues through the ranks of society until a powerful Brahmin finds himself waking up with the prostitute from the first scene. Intelligent and thought-provoking theatre which challenges the sexual status quo and holds up a harsh mirror to the realities of human behavior.
