About the Show

Sort of Where I’m Coming From is a queer journey through race, sex, family, and religion. Written and performed by Dan Bacalzo, it utilizes a mixture of poetry, dance, and spoken narrative to explore contemporary social and political issues.

It begins with Dan’s examination of a photograph of himself as a baby boy. In it, he’s holding a small baseball bat and regular sized baseball. On his head is a red baseball cap with the words “Little Slugger” written on it. As he attempts to puzzle out what motivated the choice in props and costume, he begins telling stories from his life, making unexpected connections to what has previously been told. His autobiographical musings include stories about his first male lover, the Philippine Centennial, his only female lover, and the relationship between colonialism and the Catholic church.
