Die Fledermaus

A suspenseful, tension-laden situational comedy. A year prior to the action of the operetta, Baron Gabriel von Eisenstein and his friend Dr. Falke went to a costume ball, got very drunk, and ended up in the woods on the outskirts of town. Falke fell asleep and Eisenstein left him there, to awaken in the morning and have to walk back into town still in his bat costume. Ever since, the townspeople have been calling him "Doctor Fledermaus" or "Doctor Bat", much to his irritation, and he is determined to get back at his friend. This year, Eisenstein is due to serve a jail sentence for some fishy financial dealings as a stockbroker, and Falke has arranged for a huge send-up at this year’s party the night Eisenstein is sent off.
