Is it you? Is it me? Come to the Tennessee Williams Theatre Company of New Orleans’s grand re-opening to find out For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls! Get ready for a night of Tennessee Williams spoofs that range from wacky to noir, showcasing the flagship playwright’s most iconic characters and plots in a completely different style.
First, meet Blanche—a down-on-her-luck aging schoolteacher shacked up with her sister’s husband and simply possessed by lust and desperation in Desire, Desire, Desire by Christopher Durang. A parade of characters includes Big Daddy, a set of Maggies, Stanley, and more in this hilarious take on A Streetcar Named Desire, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and The Iceman Cometh.
Next, it’s over to the parlor of Amanda Wingvalley in the titular comedy For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls by Christopher Durang. Amanda’s son Lawrence has trouble meeting girls, so when his brother Tom brings home a feminine caller, the stakes are high…and the camp is higher.
Finally, sink your teeth into something spooky and mysterious with Swamp Gothic by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a loving send up of Suddenly Last Summer and Swamp Thing comics! Matthew has arrived at Black Water, a creepy old family home belonging to his roommate, but what he finds is more than he—or frankly, any of us—bargained for.
A versatile cast full of doubling and even tripling rolle will have you doubled over and in rolling in stitches as TWTC premieres its first night of live theatre since 2019!
