About This Show

The Laguna Playhouse presents the world premiere of The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus, by L. Frank Baum, adapted by Greg Atkins, with music by Diane King Vann. Joe Lauderdale directs.

Originally published in 1902, soon after The Wizard of Oz, this fantasy imagines that Santa Claus was once a human foundling child adopted by woodland Fairies, who grows up surrounded by Elves, Knooks, Ryls, and other “immortals” of the natural world. Claus decides that his mission in life should be to bring joy to mortal children by making and distributing toys. His good works spread worldwide, and the mantle of immortality is bestowed upon him. A tale full of fairy lore, the classic battle of good versus evil and unique explanation of Christmas traditions.
