About the Show

Using the East L.A. barrios as the backdrop for this adaptation of Electra, this modern twist on the Greek tragedy thrusts you into fits of laughter and catches your breath in moments of unimaginable sorrow. The king of the East Side Locos has been murdered and the House of Atridas is in chaos. A young chola enraged by her father’s murder is lost between her desire for revenge and her longing for redemption.

2012 Joyce Award Winner Luis Alfaro gives voice to strong, complex Latina characters whose struggle to survive is bent on the choices they make. Electricidad is a window to gang culture and the history of ignorance surrounding impoverished cities. It illuminates the possibility of change at both the individual and global level. The parallels between the tragic heroine of the ancient Greek text and the modern day cholo offer the notion that thousands of years later we as a species regardless of race, culture or socioeconomic status are trapped by the cycles of revenge.
