New York City
Here’s something different: An evening of theatre in a non-traditional venue. You drive to a tony neighborhood, and your ultimate destination is a beautiful home in a cul-de-sac. The house is tastefully furnished and decorated, and there’s a charming garden through which to walk. There are tasty edibles for you to savor, and suddenly there’s a glass of wine in your hand. You’re encouraged to meet and socialize with the cast and other audience members for up to 45 minutes, and then the play begins.
Out of Your Mind! is your invitation to step into the surreal world of playwright Steven Kane. Two stories comprise the darkly comic insanity of the evening. In one, an actress’ dream state becomes more powerful and more important than her waking reality. The intrusion of a handsome stranger into her dream world may be the thing that sends her life into a different direction. The other tale takes place in a dystopian future, in a place called New New York, where happiness in mandatory and legislated, and illness is a crime . Safety and conformity are all, and people’s lives are as programmed as the robots who do the household chores. One man with a sneeze defies the established order, and races to escape the wrath of the authoritarian New New York.
