Billy’s expectations of being forced to work down the pits in Yorkshire after leaving school change when he finds Kes, a young kestrel, whom he trains. Their relationship becomes symbolic of a doomed attempt to escape the drudgery of the industrial North. Directed by Jon Hoggarth.
