S. Epatha Merkerson stars in the classic Come Back, Little Sheba, the final production of the Douglas’ 2006-2007 season. This production replaces the previously announced David Mamet’s musical A Waitress in Yellowstone, which will now be presented in the Douglas’ 2007-2008 season.
Michael Pressman direct this new production of Come Back, Little Sheba, Pulitzer Prize and Academy Award-winning playwright William Inge’s tender drama about a fragile marriage steeped in delusion and longing. Merkerson plays Lola, a woman lost in her memories and caught in a stale, hapless 25-year marriage with Doc, a man who has his own struggles with the past. Lola opens their home to Marie, a fresh-faced young boarder, and soon the precarious balance of the couple’s relationship is shaken by Marie’s youthful sexuality and vivaciousness. Inge gives a compassionate and authentic voice to the complex emotions and longings of Lola and Doc as they are compelled to re-examine their life together.
