Put some sizzle in your summer with Cape Cod Opera’s fully staged production of George Bizet’s Carmen.
The gripping realism of this opera, sung in English, follows Carmen’s (Jodi Karem) search for love and lovers in Seville, where she fights with and wounds a fellow cigarette factory girl. Carmen is put under guard by Corporal Don Jose (Neal Harrelson) who falls in love with her and frees her. Carmen is soon enjoying herself at an inn where a bullfighter, Escamillo (Anton Belov), is also tempted by the seductress. Innocent Micaela (Messisa Manseau) can’t compete with Carmen for Don Jose’s attention. The compelling drama continues with smuggling in the Pyrenees and finally ends at a bullfight where Carmen meets her fate.
David McCarty’s stage directing will present a unique, fast-paced production using Bizet’s original opera-comique form of spoken dialogue.
Performance proceeds support this non-profit company’s community and high school outreach programs.
