About This Show

The Humana Festival presents Uncle Sam’s Satiric Spectacular, on Democracy and other fictions, featuring patriotism acts and blue songs from a red state. A satirical anthology by Greg Allen, Sheila Callaghan, Bridget Carpenter, Eric Coble, Richard Dresser, Michael Friedman and Hilly Hicks

Comedians! Ventiloquists! Mesmerists! Musicians! Vaudeville took a bit of everything in American culture and reflected it back in act upon act of pure entertainment. As the culture and politics of the United States grow increasingly surreal, we thought the time was ripe for a return to the humourous forms for yesteryear. We’ve asked seven playwrights to draw on the conventions of these earlier forms to create an evening of contemporary satire, performed by Actors’ Apprentice Company. Contains strong language.
