The Color of Justice

Cheryl L. Davis’s The Color of Justice takes place in 1951. Eight-year-old Grace Carter simply wants to go to school near her home and learn from textbooks that aren’t in shreds. Convinced that “separate-but-equal” schools re-enforce the idea that African American children are inferior, attorney Thurgood Marshall intercedes on behalf of Grace and many like her across the country. Their journey takes them all the way to the Supreme Court and a dramatic revelation of the price paid for equal rights.
