I Am My Own Wife

About the Show

Based on a true story, I Am My Own Wife is the exotic tale of a German antiques dealer who remarkably survives the Nazi and Communist regimes without relinquishing her unusual sexual identity. When the Berlin Wall collapses, she becomes an unlikely celebrity, but its collapse also unearths the unsettling possibility that she may have been a spy for the East German secret police. This play swept the 2004 “best play” awards: Tony, Pulitzer, Outer Circle, and Drama Desk.

“The most stirring new work to appear on Broadway… a story that is both moving and intellectually absorbing.” – The New York Times
