When She Was God

About the Show

Keyhole Theatre Company presents the Chicago premiere of When She Was God, written by Tony Dallas and directed by Artistic Director Frank Merle.

Judith Bennington fought to become the first female head doctor of her psychiatric hospital, and she feels ready to take on a challenge. The fates give her Magda, a brilliant artist on the verge of cracking, who will push Judith to her
professional and personal limits. The spitfire Magda does everything in her power
to keep Judith at bay, but Judith sees something familiar in Magda that keeps her
fighting. As the play progresses and Magda starts to delve deeper into her
disturbing past, Judith must make a choice. If she stays aloof and professional,
Magda will never trust her enough to heal. But if Judith makes the case personal,
she stands to lose everything she has worked for. With the outside world pressing in over their shoulders, the women are forced to take actions they never thought possible. Skillfully weaving together ancient mythology, the recent past, and present day, Tony Dallas demonstrates the fallibility of memories and the necessity of seeking the truth to heal.

Additional performance Saturday, Sept. 16, at 3PM
