Two young gentlemen living in 1890s England use the same pseudonym (“Ernest”) on the sly, which is fine until they both fall in love with women while using that name, which leads to a comedy of mistaken identities. Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest is a theatre classic; it has withstood the test of time. Its characters and writing have evoked uncontrollable laughter from audiences for over 100 years. It is a play that is charmingly propelled by its language, wit, comedic situations and earnest intentions, as performed by a cast of eight Chicago actors. Christopher J. Berens directs.
This production is presented in three different rooms, all on the first floor, of the Gunder Mansion, which houses the North Lakeside Cultural Center.
