Escanaba in Da Moonlight

About the Show

Ever wonder what guys get up to when left to their own devices at a cabin in the woods? The brainchild of well-known actor/comedian turned playwright Jeff Daniels, Escanaba in Da Moonlight revels in the hilarious antics of the Soady boys with totally un-PC glee.

It’s the day before the deer hunting season opens in 1989. For generations, the men of the Soady family have trekked to the same ramshackle deer camp north of Escanaba to drink, cause a little bit of trouble, and bag bucks. But in the words of family patriarch Albert (Thom Sudol), “Dat year camp was as tense as a moose’s butt durin’ fly season.” At 35, Rueben Soady (Patrick Green) is in danger of becoming “the oldest Soady in the history of the Soadys never to bag a buck.” As the fateful dawn approaches, Rueben attempts to change his luck by altering several of the time-tested rituals of the family deer camp, but only succeeds in fueling a series of strange and unexplainable events.

“Escanaba in Da Moonlight has got to be one of the funniest new comedies of the past decade. It’s like an episode of Seinfeld had a lovechild with Dumb & Dumber, and the proud grandfathers are Moe, Larry, and Curly. It’s that loopy.”
— Craig Engel, Director and TOTH President

“This is truly a show about what happens when guys hang out in a cabin… and then some. I think fathers, sons, and even many patient wives, girlfriends, and mothers will relate to the interaction and the humor. Yeah, it’s got crazy stuff like UFOs and mysterious magic potions, but we are also dealing with the universal truth that no matter how old a man gets, fart jokes are still funny.”
— Bolingbrook’s Patrick Green
