Three years ago, a simple concept was presented: use the stage as a way to get people thinking, talking, and taking action. Esteemed playwrights from all over the world express their responses to the political issues in their countries, from the economy and education to gender equality and civil rights; then those responses are made into one-act plays. The result has been performances by over 3,000 people in 17 countries over 4 continents. As the winner of several prestigious awards, and having been shortlisted for the Amnesty International Freedom of Speech Award at Edinburgh Fringe 2012, Theatre Uncut has been described as “21st century theatre at the raw peak of its powers, doing exactly what it does best” (Joyce McMillan, The Scotsman).
