To Kill a Mockingbird

In 1960, an unknown airline reservation agent published her first novel. That book, To Kill a Mockingbird, would go on to win the Pulitzer Prize and become one of the most beloved works of fiction as well as a staple in American schools. Two years later, Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Horton Foote adapted Lee’s novel for the screen and would eventually win the Oscar for his work, one of the film’s three Academy Awards. Featuring a career defining turn by Gregory Peck, the film masterfully captures Lee’s deft exploration of race & class relations, gender roles, and a child’s loss of innocence.
