Eugene O’Neill’s monumental Long Day’s Journey Into Night traces a day in the lives of the Tyrone (read O’Neill) family during a 1912 summer day from 8:30 a.m. to midnight. O’Neill used his own personal and painful frame of reference, writing the play in 1940 and not releasing it until after his death in 1956.
