About the Show

A Picasso is set in Paris, 1941, during the Nazi occupation, and Pablo Picasso has been arrested. He is subsequently interrogated by Miss Fischer, a beautiful and strong-willed Gestapo agent, who requires him to authenticate three confiscated sketches, each of which is assumed to be “a Picasso.” Miss Fischer tells Picasso that the Germans plan to display the paintings in an exhibition.

When the true destiny of the sketches is revealed, Miss Fischer’s duty to persuade Picasso to denounce his own work is compromised by a secret admiration of his art and a sexual attraction to the artist. Under the umbrella of Nazi terror, the characters are locked in a tense struggle of gamesmanship and mutual manipulation. Steve Karp directs.
