Dead Man Walking

Based on the book by Sister Helen Prejean, Dead Man Walking was made into a movie written and directed by Tim Robbins in 1995 starring Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn. In 2003, it became a script available for production only through the Dead Man Walking School Theatre Project in conjunction with a college or university. To date, over 35 colleges and universities have produced the play in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. The Play Project, as it is now called, was established to facilitate getting this play and the topic of the death penalty into schools across the nation.
