On November 13th, 2002, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks committed to writing a play a day for the following 365 days. The world premiere of this play cycle is being performed in major cities and communities around the country as the year-long festival 365 Days / 365 Plays. Simultaneous and separate performances of the play cycle by over 600 theatres are taking place in New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Colorado, Seattle, San Francisco, Austin, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Minneapolis, Texas, the Southeast and university campuses across the country, creating the largest theatre collaboration in U.S. history.
Acting as the local “hub,” Curious Theatre Company has gathered a cross-section of Colorado’s theatre artists and organizations to take part in the project. The participating organizations, representing 18 cities ranging from Alamosa to Fort Collins, Aurora to Aspen, each perform one week of plays in numerous locations throughout the state. The year promises to involve full productions, staged-readings, guerilla theatre, museum performances, interdisciplinary events and audience participation. Eight colleges, at least two high school groups and forty-four professional companies are participating. Week #49 (October 15-21, 2007) has been christened “365 High” as high schools create their own version of the week and then come together to share their work.
All 365 performances are free and open to the public.
