Vita and Virginia

About the Show

Intense and passionate, Vita and Virginia by Eileen Atkins reveals the 20-year love affair between Vita Sackville-West and Virginia Woolf. Directed by Ellen-Ray Hennessy, this fundraiser in support of Red Letter Theatre will play for one night only.

Vita and Virginia is a magnificent weaving of written correspondence between two of the most celebrated and successful novelists of the Modernist literary period. Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West first met in 1922 when they were aged 40 and 30 respectively. Through the course of the next 20 years, until Virginia’s suicide in 1941, the extraordinary relationship between them was charted in their letters to one another, in which they speak of everyday life, friends, literature and, above all themselves. The play, adapted by Eileen Atkins, takes it lead from these letters; creating a compelling and dramatic retelling of their love affair.

The reading features Rosemary Dunsmore as Virginia Woolf and Tedde Moore as Vita Sackville-West. Ellen-Ray Hennessy directs.
