The Sound of Silence

About the Show

After the success of 2007’s With A Little Help From My Friends, which saw musical theatre artists reinterpreting the music of The Beatles, Acting Up Stage again blurs the lines of rock, cabaret and musical theatre. In The Sound of Silence, ten astonishing artists pay tribute to one of the world’s greatest songwriters – Paul Simon.  Classic songs such as “You Can Call Me Al,” “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover,” “Cecelia,” “The Boxer,” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water” will be re-envisioned and performed by some of Canada’s greatest musical storytellers.  Musical theatre fans will love the chance to see their favorite artists performing these "undiscovered showtunes" and rock fans will be blown away by the re-examination of this legendary music.

The Sound of Silence features performances by: Thom Allison (Stratford Festival, Shaw Festival, Dora nominee for Acting Up Stage’s Elegies: A Song Cycle), Sara Farb (Mirvish’s Jane Eyre, Acting Up Stage’s Edges), Steven Gallagher (CanStage, Acting Up Stage’s A New Brain), Susan Henley (Hairspray, Acting Up Stage’s A Man of No Importance), Andrew Kushnir (CanStage’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hair), Amanda LeBlanc (Citadel Theatre’s Pride and Prejudice), Jeff Madden (Toronto’s Jersey Boys, Shaw Festival),Eliza-Jane Scott (Toronto’s The Producers, Dora nominee for Acting Up Stage’s Elegies: A Song Cycle), Michael Therriault (Broadway’s Fiddler On The Roof, Toronto & London’s The Lord of The Rings, Dora-award winner), and Blythe Wilson (The Sound of Music, Stratford Festival, Shaw Festival). Reza Jacobs (Pleiades Shakuntala, Acting Up Stage’s A Man of No Importance) music directs, orchestrates and arranges.
