In Othello, the mercenary Moor Othello, general of the Venetian armies, has married Desdemona, daughter of a powerful senator. But the villain Iago conspires to poison the couple’s delight, because he is jealous for having been passed over for promotion by Othello in favor of the untested Michael Cassio. He will stop at nothing until he uses Desdemona to destroy the two men he hates.
