About the Show

On the Bum, written by OBIE award-winning playwright Neal Bell, is a witty and multilayered examination of the transparency of art-and of truth-at a pivotal time in the growth of modern America. Set during the Great Depression, the play centers on a hard-luck New York actress named Eleanor, who hops a train to the heartland to act in a government-sponsored local production. While rehearsing the play-a historic piece about the town of Bumfork-Eleanor accidentally stumbles across a mystery lurking in the wings. As she struggles to uncover the truth, she finds herself in the midst of political scandal, artistic censorship, and an unexpected romance. Sheryl Kaller directs.
